Which FLITELab* product is right for me?

Whether you’re new to foiling or a full time frother, choosing the right equipment is essential for your enjoyment and boss-level progression through the sport. To AMP or not to AMP? What size is best? And just how good am I really? These questions can prompt some existential soul searching, so in the interests of clarity and confidence, here’s a quick guide for everyone from beginner to pro.

Board Sizes

Unlike front wing sizes, choosing the right board size is more about the rider's skill, weight, and size. Most riders typically have one board that suits most conditions, while they might switch between 2 or 3 front wing sizes depending on the conditions.

AMP_Boards

FLITELab*s AMP range is the powered range, featuring either a board-based jet in AMPJet or a mast integrated prop in AMPMast. They give you a boost to get up on foil across a much wider range of conditions than a RAW_Board, giving you more opportunities to foil, on more days.

RAW_Boards

FLITELab*s RAW range is the prone or unpowered range. AKA the one without the jet or prop. It’s the purest form of foiling and typically considered the hardest to master, although different board sizes can help flatten that learning curve a smidge. The general rule is the smaller the board the more experienced (and lighter) the rider, although there are other factors too.

Front Wings

Front wings are the most frequently changed component based on conditions. Generally, the bigger the wing, the greater the lift and stability but at the expense of agility. A lighter rider will use a smaller wing, while heavier riders will opt for larger ones. Smaller waves require bigger wings for that lift and stability, while larger waves call for smaller, more agile wings that are harder to pump.

Mast

The FLITELab*_UHM_Mast is a super-stiff, performance mast. It’s an excellent option for all levels, capable of taking you from your first wave, to a pro riding beast. The different lengths are best suited to different uses.

Fuse Lengths

Fuse length affects the setup’s stability and agility. The more stable it is, the less agile and vice versa.

Stabilizers

Any stabilizer size can work with any foil size. Smaller stabilizers offer more agility with less drag, while larger stabilizers provide more stability but also more drag.

S boards are a performance prone shape. The go-to option for the surf, advanced wingers with or without AMPJet, plus when downwind conditions are pumping.

M boards are shaped more like a mid-length board. The go-to option for downwinding, winging with or without AMPJet, plus super-fat and small surf days.

AMP_4'2"_S @ 29L: A small but mighty board for prone foiling. With the addition of AMPJet or AMPMast, it handles bigger downwind days or serves as a compact option for winging.

AMP_4'6"_S @ 34L: The versatile all-rounder. Suitable for all conditions, Prone Foiling, Downwinding, or Winging in sub 8 knots with the Jet.

AMP_4'8"_S @ 40L: Excellent for beginners. It offers plenty of volume and a slightly wider tail for added stability during take-off.

AMP_5'0"_M @ 45L: Designed for performance Winging in waves, this is also a great choice for lighter Downwind conditions.

AMP_5'8"_M @ 75L: Ideal for intermediate Wingers or lighter beginner to intermediate riders. Works well on light wind days with the AMPJet and is versatile enough for when the wind picks up.

Raw_4'0" @ 27L: Ideal for highly experienced foilers or lighter, intermediate to experienced riders. It's more challenging to paddle and get up on, but once on foil, it's more agile than larger boards and easier to pump.

Raw_4'2" @ 29L: Suited for experienced riders or light intermediate riders. Slightly easier to paddle than the 4'0, it remains agile and pumps exceptionally well.

Raw_4'4" @ 32L: Perfect for heavier experienced riders or intermediate riders. This board offers great all-around performance, with enough paddle power, but still stiff and light enough for excellent pumping.

Raw_4'6" @ 35L: Designed for heavier intermediate riders or lighter beginner to intermediate riders. It paddles smoothly, remains stiff and light for manoeuvrability, and pumps well between sets.
